What the calculator includes
The current calculator estimates the number of decking stock boards for a simple rectangular layout and the cost of those boards at the price you enter. It does not estimate a complete deck project cost.
Items to price separately
- Framing lumber, joists, beams and rim joists
- Footings, posts, post bases and structural connectors
- Deck screws or approved hidden fastening system
- Joist tape, flashing and waterproofing details as appropriate
- Stairs, handrails, guardrails, lighting and trim where needed
- Permits, site preparation, disposal and inspections
- Professional design, labor, rental tools and safety equipment
- Delivery, sales tax, returns and retailer restocking conditions
Compare complete quotes
Ask sellers to confirm actual product dimensions, stock lengths, surface suitability, permitted fasteners, installation spacing, warranty conditions and availability. Ask contractors for an itemized scope and written change-order terms. Do not infer a structural design from the board count.
A practical shopping sequence
First measure the surface; next confirm decking and manufacturer guidance; then select stock length and allowance; finally enter real shelf prices and copy the resulting board estimate. Confirm other structural and installation materials separately.
